The feast of the patron saint was held at St Andrew’s Church in Vasco with great religious fervor, amidst pomp and gaiety on Saturday.
Considering this year marks the 450th year of the existence of the first Church in Mormugao district, the feast had a greater significance for the parishioners of the port town.
The Archbishop of Delhi Anil Couto on Saturday said that people should become messengers of peace and harmony and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
While delivering his homily as the main celebrant for the high mass at the feast of St Andrew at St Andrew’s Church in Vasco, Archbishop Couto also added that people should focus on exchanging love and happiness with each other.
Parish Priest of St Andrew’s Church Rev Fr Gabriel Coutinho was among the many priests present at the celebration.
Archbishop Couto said that people should forgive one and another and share whatever they have. “We should always be like a child and humble servants of each other. People who care for the poor and downtrodden will stand in God’s kingdom, the kingdom which the Christ won for us by his teaching and his sufferings till his death and his resurrection,” he added.
Archbishop Couto said that people should be strong enough in the faith and never allow any kind of worldly influence to interfere with their commitment to the Lord.
The Parish Priest of St Andrew’s Church Rev Fr Gabriel Coutinho said that the annual feast of St Andrew in Vasco has been one of the best moments for Vascokars.
Fr Gabriel Coutinho said that he would pray to the almighty God to bless people with good health.
