Stating that 50 patients have so far been under observation for symptoms of coronavirus with none testing positive for virus, Chicalim Sub District hospital (SDH) Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra Borkar on Friday said though there may be concerns of coronavirus, there was no fear regarding the virus in Goa for now.
Acting on directives of the health department, the Chicalim SDH has made arrangements to handle cases of coronavirus, with two isolation rooms set up at the new Chicalim Sun district hospital while five more isolation rooms set up at the old Cottage hospital complex.
Dr Borker said the health department was well prepared to fight coronavirus in case of any eventuality.
“Around 50 patients were kept under observation and all of them were under home observation and none of them were found to be positive for the virus.”
“One patient was kept for observation at GMC on Thursday and his samples have been sent for tests. Of all patients kept under observation, 41 of them are free while nine are still under observation,” said Dr Borkar.
“There is nothing to worry about and we are doing our best. We don’t have any positive case as yet. In case of any eventuality, the health department is well prepared to tackle the coronavirus,” said Dr Borkar.
Speaking on the meeting of officials convened by Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane, Dr Borkar said it was a meeting to monitor the preparedness of authorities regarding coronavirus.
“The minister and the officials, including Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry Alok Saxena, visited the screening centres at the airport.
They also visited the Chicalim SDH to check for isolation facilities and to check if we have adequate masks, protective gears and equipment and if all staff are sensitised with handling of patients affected with coronavirus and other facilities like transportation, etc.”
“The officials were satisfied with the preparedness and we were guided on minor changes that needed to be done,” added Dr Borkar.
