‘Dedicated docs need to be backed’

Health Minister on Saturday said the health department has some good and dedicated doctors but needed backing of the government to perform.

"We have a good Medical Superintendent (MS) in Hospicio. We also have very good MS in Asilo...But she has to be backed up. There are few very good doctors that are very dedicated," the health minister said.
He was speaking to The Goan at the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the 12th branch of Sattari Urban Co-operative Credit Society in Mapusa.
The health minister said that the government will soon tide over the shortage of nursing staff in all major hospitals in the State.
"The process of recruitment of 150 nursing staff is already on. We are also creating posts for another 350 nursing personnel. So, we will deploy...," he said when apprised of the severe shortage of nursing staff in the North Goa District Hospital (Asilo) in Mapusa.
He said that he was aware of various issues affecting the Mapusa district hospital and would sort it out on his visit to the hospital.
"I will have a look at it...," he said when told about the polluted drinking water being supplied in the North Goa District Hospital.
It may be recalled the Goa State Human Rights Commission recently took cognizance of the polluted drinking water supplied in North Goa District Hospital and issued notice to Prinicipal Engineer, PWD, Director of Health Services and the Asilo MS.
