‘Fixers’ have let down Cong in past: Ravi in defence of sons

MARGAO
Claiming that “fixers” have let down the party in the past, Congress Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has said his sons were dejected with the Congress after not a single party leader had come to campaign for them when they had contested the Assembly elections in Madkai and Valpoi in the past.

He, however, said that his sons are grown up adults and father of children and are capable of taking their own decisions.

Saying that he is not greedy for any post or position, Ravi reminded that he has been given the responsibility of five Assembly seats to carry out the membership exercise.

“My sons are not minors. They are free to take their own decisions. Some of the party leaders targetted me when my sons joined the BJP. Where were these leaders when relations of Congress leaders had quit the party to embrace the BJP. These people were quite when the 10 MLAs had gone out of the party,” he said, while saying there are some fixers in the party who have let down the party.

Asked whether he would contest the 2022 Assembly election, Ravi said there’s still time to take a call, saying a decision will be taken at the right time whether he would contest or not. He, however, said that he is working 24x7 for the people as evident by the people visiting his Ponda office.

Demanding to know why not a single leader had descended in Valpoi in the by-election in support of his candidate, Ravi said Congress leaders had left his sons to fend for themselves when they had contested on party banner in Madkai and Valpoi.

Asked whether he had started the work of membership drive in the five constituencies earmarked for him by the Congress leaders, Ravi said he will have to first find out whether there are any existing committees in the segments or whether the fixers had left the party workers high and dry. “I am verifying the data whether the party leadership had in the past constituted the party committee. The exercise is underway.”
