‘Govt failed to provide safe passage to Kamarkhazan-Acoi locals across NH66’

Cong says Aldona MLA conducts only inspections

‘Govt failed to provide safe passage to Kamarkhazan-Acoi locals across NH66’

MAPUSA
Feeling let down by the State government’s failure to provide a safe passage to residents of Kamarkhazan-Acoi across the NH66, the Congress slammed the Aldona MLA for only conducting inspections with focus on elections to gain sympathy of the locals.

The Congress also slammed the local MLA for failing to keep his promise of repairing the roads in the ward.

Congress leader and the party’s media cell chairman Amarnath Panjikar reminded that Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo had conducted an inspection near the Hotel Preeti International to explore the possibility of constructing an underpass or overbridge at the site just before the civic elections in October last year.

He further disclosed how the Aldona MLA ensured the chief minister’s OSD was present on the site during the inspection to impress the locals.

“Almost eight months have passed after the inspection but nothing concrete has shaped up. Instead the MLA has recently conducted another inspection near the Peddem junction on the same issue as another election is due in just about six months. It looks like Ticlo is only conducting inspections without any action, just to create an impression for the upcoming elections,” Panjikar said, while addressing a press conference at the site.

To buttress his point further, Panjikar pointed out how the Aldona MLA had recently conducted an inspection of Tar river in presence of the Mapusa chairperson and yet another inspection of Calvim bridge a couple of days back.

He said the MLA has carried out inspections umpteen times with the same officers in Peddem but so far has failed to convince the authorities to make a provision for people to cross over the national highway.

The Congress leader further informed that people were told that signals would be provided at the Peddem junction but so far nothing has materialized.

“Signals on a national highway where vehicles speed up at over 100 kmph is next to impossible and appears to be another lie to win over the people,” he said.

He further sought to bring to the attention of the authorities about the pitiable condition of the service roads which were almost unmotorable at several stretches.

Congress youth leader Mahabaleshwar Toraskar censured the local MLA for failing to keep his promise of repairing all the roads in Aldona constituency.

“Most roads in Kamarkhazan-Acoi have deteriorated and are full of potholes. It’s become dangerous for pedestrians as well as motorists to use the roads. The Aldona MLA has failed to get it repaired before the monsoons,” Toraskar said.

He further informed that the two wards of Mapusa which comes under Aldona constituency always remain neglected and the local MLA makes a round in the wards only during the civic and the assembly elections.
