Former Panaji MLA and Economic Development Corporation Chairman Sidharth Kuncalienker on Saturday said that projects like public bike sharing system and bus rapid transit (BRT) system taken up by the City of Indore can be replicated in Panaji under Smart City Mission.
Smart City team led by Sidharth Kuncalienker, along with CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri and CCP Corporator Pundalik Raut Desai visited Indore to understand projects undertaken by Indore Smart City Corporation Ltd.
Speaking to The Goan Everyday, Kuncalienker informed, "The city has really worked hard to achieve a benchmark. It is mainly the behavioural change and changed mindset of the people which has led to the success of the city."
"The public bike sharing system adopted by Indore is something that we want to implement in Panaji too.
"Secondly, the bus rapid transit system in Indore is quite impressive. We can replicate it partly in Panaji," he stated.
Indore Smart City Corporation Ltd has also undertaken a few remarkable projects like restoration of Gopal Mandir precincts, restoration of Rajwada, etc.
Nonetheless, the Indore Municipal Corporation has many innovative methods like house to house
collection of wet as well as dry garbage three times a day, setting up of transfer stations, empowering corporation employees and
instilling in them pride of the city, etc.
The team also met Mayor and MLA from Indore, Malini Laxmansinh Gaud.
"She has a vision to make Indore the cleanest city with widened roads and voluntary removal of encroachments and is keen to restore the image of Indore to its erstwhile commercial cum cultural capital," said Kuncalienker.
