A group of people from Cumbharjua on Thursday marched in protest to the offices of the PWD in St Inez over lack of water supply by tankers during the crisis.
Cumbharjua is serviced by the second 750 mm dia pipeline and the residents will have to wait at least another 48 hours before they can experience the relief of water running in their taps.
One resident Glen Cabral told The Goan that going by how long it took to fix the first 900 mm dia pipeline, residents are not expecting water to resume for at least another three to four days.
But Cabral acknowledged that the problem had been half solved with the PWD sending two tankers of water to Carambolim and Old Goa on Thursday evening.
He said some people were managing with water from wells but those who don’t have wells are facing problems.
“The private tankers are not willing to supply water. They are reluctant to supply water to three-four houses with the same tanker, even if people are willing to pay. They want to supply to one house and leave the further distribution to the neighbourhood to the people themselves. That is our main problem,” Cabral said.
He also said that private tankers were out of reach of the common man as even the lower capacity ones charge between Rs 2000 to Rs 2500.
