The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has made it clear that any structure within the limits of the MPT would need a NOC from the port authority.
MPT Deputy Chairman G P Rai was replying to a question on the recent issue of shack operators being asked to seek MPT’s NOC to construct beachside shacks at Arossim.
“It is clear that anything erected in our port limits will need our NOC. As of now, there is no policy as such, but not only shacks, anything that is established under MPT waters, it will need our NOC,” said Rai.
Commenting on the Arossim issue, Rai said some areas of Arossim fall under MPT jurisdiction and hence, the port could give NOC for structures in its jurisdiction. “This is not a demand as such but anyone approaching us will be get our NOC. One party approached us from Baina and we have given them the NOC. I know that some portion of Arossim is under MPT limits because we had gone there once when a barge ran aground,” said Rai.
“Nevertheless, we are giving NOCs as long as the application is routed through the tourism department. There is no issue for us to give NOC for any shacks allotted by tourism department in our jurisdiction,” said Rai.
