The newly-constituted Ravindra Bhavan team headed by Prashant Naik, accompanied by PWD engineers to inspect the institution on Thursday, a day after they held a meeting with TCP Minister,
Vijai Sardesai, PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavlikar, Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude, besides the Principal Chief Engineer with a request to tone up the crumbling infrastructure at the cultural institution.
The team came across plastic sheets hanging over the main auditorium to prevent water seepage inside as they took a round of the entire premises with officials of the PWD, including buildings and Electricity Division.
After the inspection, the Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Prashant Naik said it may take the new team around a year to put the infrastructure in place. "It's just 15-16 days since the new team had taken over the reins of Ravindran Bhavan. What we have found out is that there's been no maintenance of the infrastructure for the last 10 years. We have already approached our local Minister Vijai Sardesai and others and submitted a list on how to put the entire place back on track," he said.
Replying to a question, he said it will take at least a year to put the infrastructure in place, but hastened to add that the team has made a good beginning. Prashant said that the new team will also ensure that the two unutilized blocks at the Ravindra bhavan will be put to use.
"The new team will ensure that music classes start in these two blocks. Work on the Audio studio will also be resumed by the new team," he said.
He conceded that there's been leakage in the main auditorium for want of maintenance during the last 10 years, adding that things should fall in place within the next one years.
