The Goa Forward Party has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to relax the noise pollution rules beyond 10 pm in the State for traditional religious activities.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner with a copy to the Chief Electoral Office, Goa, GFP chief Vijai Sardesai said the ongoing traditional religious activities have attracted action under the noise pollution rules, especially after 10 pm from flying squads which are entrusted with imposing the model code of conduct in the state due to Lok Sabha Polls on April 23rd & and bypolls to three assembly segments.
“Since there have been instances of flying squads stopping Shigmo festivities, there is apprehension that religious activities during the ongoing Lenten Season and Easter Vigil Services will also attract similar action,” he said, demanding that all traditional religious activities be exempt from the sound ban.
“This exemption should be applicable to all religions. We reiterate that these activities in no way disturb or hinder the election process. Hence they should be exempted and DEOs of North and South Goa as well as flying squads be informed accordingly at the earliest,” he added.
