Reginaldo demanded that the government bring an immediate ordinance to shift all the tenancy cases from the civil courts to the taluka mamlatdars rSamiti president Daniel D’Souza, convenor Rupesh Naik and others handed over a memorandum to the Curtorim MLA demanding that he take up the issue in the forthcoming Assembly session and get the controversial amendment withdrawn. rReginaldo demanded to know why the government did not bring an Ordinance to withdraw the controversial amendment when the ruling dispensation has taken many decisions on various issues, including casinos and to bring more areas of Bardez under the planning areas of North Planning body. “If the government is serious towards the welfare of the Bahujan Samaj, it should not only ensure that tenancy cases are reverted back to the taluka mamlatdars, but also delete the controversial clauses, including the sunset clause and the clause on contract farming,” he said. rDaniel D’Souza pointed out that the controversial amendment to the Tenancy Act, brought by the BJP government led by then Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had only benefitted the landlords.
‘Withdraw changes to Tenancy Act’
The Goa Kulll Mundkar Sangarsh Samiti on Tuesday demanded the immediate withdrawal of the amendments to the Tenancy Act pertaining to contract farming, sunset clause and the shifting of the tenancy cases to the civil courts from the taluka mamlatdars.
