Drishti’s lifesaving force rescued 19 individuals in the last two days across north and south Goa, which included several multiple rescues.
Mobor beach saw a triple rescue involving 3 girls, two aged 14 and one aged 19, all hailing from Lucknow, UP.
While in the waters, the girls got caught up in a rip current and were being dragged into the sea. A lifesaver noticed the trio and circulated a rescue message over the radio while he rushed to secure the victims.
A foreigner swimming at the same spot rushed in to assist the lifeguard. With the assistance of the foreigner, all three girls were secured onto a rescue board and brought ashore safely. After obtaining credentials, the girls were handed over to their relieved parents.
Lifesavers in Calangute conducted two single rescues involving males from Hyderabad and Belgaum.
Calangute witnessed a crowd of 30 to 40 people in the waters. A 16-year-old boy from Hyderabad lost his footing and panicked. He got caught in a rip and started drifting when two lifesavers spotted him, dashed to his rescue and brought him ashore.
In a similar incident, three lifesavers teamed up to rescue a 37-year-old man from Belgaum from a rip current at Calangute.
There were multiple rescues at Palolem involving four males and one female from Delhi, all aged between 25-30 yrs.
A group of 10 people from Delhi were at Palolem beach. Five among them went across to the island during the low tide. While returning back the tide had changed.
With the high tide setting in they were unable to make it across and were stuck over the island. At around 8.10 pm, the group’s friends approached the lifesaver tower and asked for assistance as their friends were unable to make it across to the mainland from the island.
Three Drishti lifesavers assisted by two Beach Safety Patrol (BSP) officers went across to the island and brought all five individuals to the mainland using the jetskis and rescue boards. One male who had got a cut on his leg was rendered first aid by a lifesaver.
There were double rescues at Sinquerim, Baga and Ashvem and Dudhsagar waterfalls on Sunday, while there were single rescues at Keri and Agonda.
The lifesaving team at Agonda assisted in a medical intervention when a lady dislocated her knee while in the sea. Hailing from Kerala, the lady was rendered first aid by the lifesaving team and was shifted to the hospital for further treatment in a 108 ambulance.
