Two riders died on the spot in a road mishap near the O’Coqueiro Junction at Porvorim on Saturday night.
According to reports, the mishap took place at about 9.30 pm as Shabbin Dappendar (32) and Shahid Chandwale (17), both from Porvorim, were proceeding towards Mapusa on a scooter, while a truck was also going in the same direction. The two riders came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot.
News of the mishap spread quickly and relatives rushed to the spot. A mob present at the site pelted stones at the truck.
A Porvorim police team rushed to the site and took control of the situation. The truck driver, Rajesh Shinde (42) of Kalyan-Mumbai has been arrested in this connection. Former MLA Rohan Khaunte, DySP Vishwesh Karpe, PI Anant Gaonkar were at the site.
