22.75 ha fallow land cultivated this season: ZAO

Hazard a guess how much area of fallow agriculture land in Salcete was brought under paddy cultivation this season “ around 22.75 hectares to be precise.

Margao Zonal Agriculture Officer Sheriff Furtado said fallow land in Chinchinim, Benaulim, Navelim, besides Raia was brought under paddy cultivation this year, thanks to the interest shown by farmers and Comunidade officials.

He told the media that around two lakh square meter of fallow agriculture land has been brought under paddy cultivation in Chinchinim, thanks to the initiative taken by the president of Chinchinim Communidade Agnelo Furtado, who involved the tenants in resuming cultivation in the fallow lands.

Furtado further said that a couple of farmers from Benaulim, including John Barretto has brought additional land under paddy cultivation this season.

In Navelim, he pointed out that a seaman Godfrey Dias has brought land admeasuring 28,000 square meters under paddy cultivation. “Altogether around 22.75 hectares of additional fallow land has been brought under paddy cultivation in Salcete taluka alone”, Furtado added.
