The Health Department on Saturday recorded 27 Covid related deaths taking the total victim count of the state to 2,597. On the other hand, the number of new Covid cases fell below 1,000 for the first time in over a month and a half.
The number of new cases and the daily positivity rate dropped drastically with 963 or 22.52 per cent new cases being detected from among the 4,276 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
Of the 27 deaths, 17 deaths were recorded at Goa Medical College and Hospital, seven at South Goa District Hospital and one each at Victor Hospital, SMRC Hospital and Mothercare Hospital.
The total active Covid cases in the state now stand at 15,056 while the recovery rate has gradually improved to 88.57 per cent.
Meanwhile, the coverage of beneficiaries in the 45 years and above age group under the second dose of Covid vaccine continues to remain abysmal with only 44 beneficiaries being fully vaccinated on Saturday. Only 96,012 beneficiaries have been fully vaccinated in Goa under the Covid vaccination drive which was kicked off on January 16.
The government administered the first dose of the Covid vaccine to 6,106 more beneficiaries out of which 2,345 beneficiaries were covered under the ongoing Tika Utsav for the administration of the first dose of vaccine to those above 45 years of age. This takes the total number of partially vaccinated persons in Goa to 3,18,552.
