Around 28 more candidates on Tuesday have filed their nomination papers for the election for the Margao Municipal Council, taking the number of candidates who have filed their papers to date to 70.
Returning Officer and Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao Jyoti Kumari told the media on Tuesday that 28 candidates filed around 30 nominations. She said 70 candidates have to date filed around 79 candidates for the ensuing elections for the Margao municipal elections.
Prominent amongst those who have filed their papers on Tuesday was sitting Councilor and former MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva (ward no 7), Milagres Fernandes (ward no 1), Camilo Barretto and others.
Shadow Council for Margao candidates also filed their nomination papers on Tuesday. The candidates who filed nominations are Adv Seoula Vas (ward 3), Manuel Oliveira ward 9, Vlem Fernandes (ward 12), Adv Snehal Damodar Onskar ward 13 and Poma Rajesh Kerkar ward 20.
The SCM further stated that several other independent candidates shall also be supported by the SCM and the final tally of candidates may reach upto 14.
