2-time BJP Zilla member Ulhas fails to ‘impress’ party again

2-time BJP Zilla member Ulhas fails to ‘impress’ party again

MARGAO
Two-time BJP Zilla Panchayat member, representing Davorlim seat in Salcete, Ulhas Tuemkar, has missed the bus to make it big at the South Goa Zilla Panchayat once again.

After he was not considered for the post of South Goa Chairperson during the last term by the BJP leadership, Ulhas’ candidature did not find favour with the leadership once again, as his name was not considered for the post of vice-chairperson of the South Goa ZP seat.

Last time round, the BJP leadership had ensured that the outgoing ZP Chairperson Navnath Naik completes the full five-year term, when the party could have either rotated the chair or at least given the last one-year of the term to Ulhas recognising his seniority in the party.

Given that the South Goa ZP chairperson’s post was reserved for women, Ulhas was ruled out for the coveted post, but his close supporters were expecting the party leadership to accommodate him on the post of vice-chairperson.

The two-time Davorlim ZP member, who had in the past, been a panchayat member for over two decades, having held the post of sarpanch twice, however, seemed to have missed the bus as the party leadership settled in favour of Congress-turned-BJP MLA and Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar’s close aide, Kushali Velip.

The two-time Davorlim ZP member, however, said the decision of the party to settle in for Kushali Velip is binding on him.

“As a karyakarta of the BJP at the grass-roots and a loyal party soldier, the party’s decision is binding on me. I have no issue,” Ulhas said, when the media questioned him over the party’s decision to nominate Khushali Velip for the post of vice-chairperson.
