Three parties filed intervention pleas in the Old Goa structure case when the stay application of the petitioner came up for hearing in the Additional Director of Panchayats (ADP) on Tuesday.
The three parties include Save Old Goa Action Committee (SOGAC), Adv Amit Palekar and a group of concerned individuals.
ADP Umakant Korkankar has now posted the next hearing on April 19 while extending the status quo till that date.
Speaking to reporters, advocate for Se Old Goa VP Saiesh Mhambrey confirmed that the three parties have filed intervention pleas in the matter.
“Now it has been kept for reply on the intervention pleas as also on the stay application. The petitioner has also filed for amendment to bring the demolition order on record. The court has asked both the parties to maintain status quo,” Mhambrey informed.
Adv Amit Palekar said he has filed intervention plea to keep an eye on the matter and to see that the structure gets demolished.
“Also, since the government is involved in the fraud, the people have lost trust due to which the NGO SOGAC and others have also filed intervention pleas.
“We are going to be part of the petition and ensure that the matter reaches its logical conclusion, which is demolition of the structure,” Palekar stated.
When questioned whether too many interventions won’t complicate the issue, Adv Palekar said that more the legal minds and more the documents produced will only help the authorities to decide the matter righteously.
“The panchayat is defending its demolition order. But how far it would go, we do not know. But all of us are going to work together and it is going to be a collective effort and not as individuals.
“All those who have filed interventions have only one interest that is to save environment, save heritage, save Old Goa. And every Goan has right to intervene in the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, Palekar also informed that he has filed application with the Vigilance Department for a thorough investigation in the matter so that those involved in the fraud are brought to book.
