Forty-nine head constables of the Indian Reserve Battalions were promoted to the lowest rung of the officer level -- assistant police inspector (ASI) on Thursday.
The Police department is also poised to promote close to 30 police sub-inspectors to the rank of police inspectors.
Recently, the home department had removed the promotional process from the post of police sub-inspector to police inspector in the Goa police department from the ambit of the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) and it will now be conducted by a departmental promotion committee under the Police Service Establishment Board headed by the Director-General of Police.
The Police department has a sanction for 121 posts of police inspectors of which currently 91 are already filled. Eight others have been promoted to "officiating" police inspectors, and the department has 22 clear vacancies for police inspector posts.
