5 arrested, drugs worth Rs 10 L seized in Mapusa

Police arrested five persons and seized 10.3 kgs of ganja worth about Rs 10 lakh after conducting a raid at the new KTC bus stand in Mapusa on Thursday evening.

The arrested have been identified as Chandankumar Sharma (22), Rohit Sharma (21), Imitya Ansari (21), all from Jharkhand, Vijay Valwaikar (25) of Camurlim and Parashuram Lamani (36) of Housing Board Camurlim.

The police conducted a raid between 3.30 pm and 6 pm on Thursday, after receiving information that drugs were being sold at the new KTC bus stand. Accordingly, a police team laid a trap and caught the suspects red-handed.

The accused, Chandankumar, Rohit and Imitya had allegedly arrived at the bus station with 10.3 kgs of ganja, while the other accused, Vijay Valwaikar and Parashuram Lamani, had come to take possession of the drugs. Police nabbed all five suspects and seized the ganja.

Police is conducting investigations under the supervision of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar and guidance of DySP Sandesh Chodankar and Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal.
