Mandrem police on Friday arrested six persons in connection with the assault on former Mandrem Sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar. The accused Vishwanath Harijan from Old Goa, Suresh Naik of Socorro, Sairaj Govekar from Maina-Pilerne, Franky Nadar of St Cruz, Manish Hadfadkar from Chorao and Uddesh Shetty from Altinho, were arrested from Karwar where they had allegedly gone into hiding after allegedly committing the crime.
“North Goa police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting six persons involved in the Mandrem assault case. They had fled Goa to evade arrest,” North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said.
He further informed that special teams were formed at the district level to trace and arrest all persons associated with the case, given the sensitivity of the matter.
Earlier, the police had seized the vehicle used in the crime and arrested its owner Pundalik Harijan.
The weapon used in the assault was also recovered during the investigation.
The case also led to the transfer of Mandrem Police Inspector Sherif Jaques to the North District Reserve Line Force in Porvorim. Mopa Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar has been given additional charge of the station.
