Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Surel Tilve questioned why there was no focus on developing infrastructure that supports online education even after seven months since the start of the lockdown.
Tilve criticised the BJP government severely for not providing the necessary infrastructure that supports online education and sought to point out to some instances of students committing suicide in Goa for not having a smartphone to continue their education. Tilve also lamented that many students from rural areas have to walk to dangerous places for network connectivity for their online classes.
AAP demanded to know why the pattern of online education was being pushed hurriedly and why the schools and colleges were asked to carry out online classes when children and youth in rural areas and remote parts of Goa do not have access to such technology.
Referring to a recent news report about 25 to 30 students from Cumbhari village and Baati village from Sanguem taluka, who climb the hill top of Netravali forest area and wildlife sanctuary region to attend online classes, Tilve highlighted the risks faced by the students merely to receive good education.
“The government can spend a lot of money for reconstruction proposals and work of Raj Bhavan and other official structures for their own ministers and also a lot of money was spent on a fancy car for the Chief Minister and other ministers. If so, then why not at least some amount of money be spent to improve infrastructure in the State to provide good facilities for online education?” Tilve questioned.
“Government seems to be spending money lavishly on unrequired expenses of the Chief Minister and other cabinet ministers but when it comes to spending money to create better infrastructure for good education facilities for youth, an excuse of lack of funds is thrown on the face of the public,” asked Tilve.
