AAP lambasts conversion of Calangute into 'urban area'

PANAJI

Aam Aadmi Party condemns the conversion of Calangute village by Michael Lobo and the BJP to "urban area" to grab Goan lands and profit from it during the pandemic

The Aam Aadmi Party stated that the BJP in Goa is continuing to find new ways to loot Goans who are already suffering in the pandemic. The latest instance is the conversion of Calangute village into an "urban area" purely as a first step to grab Goan lands, broker deals with the land mafia and profit of them leaving Goans in the lurch.

This move will further result in increase in water, power issues and most significantly an increase in house taxes, thus kicking Goans when they are down. Moreover this conversion has been done akin to a thief in the night during the lockdown to defraud common Goans much like the three linear projects.

It's important to note that tourist areas like Calangute where income is co-related to tourism are already reeling from losses due to the lockdown and the Govt's ham-handed polices.

Moreover the pandemic has left many Goans in a bad state as Goa was one of the worst impacted in the country. All over Goa not only have prices of essentials like electricity risen, (despite infrastructure being ignored) but spikes in the prices of fuel have led to the increase in common household items and supplies. In the middle of this to turn Calangute into an "urban area" is another way for the BJP to steal even lands from Goans via the land mafia.

"This is nothing but a move to steal more from Goans by Michael Lobo and Pramod Sawant, they are busy tying to fill their pockets more to fund more purchases of opposition leaders" said AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre. "Instead of working to ease the worries of Goans, the BJP Govt is trying to steal our lands and make it easy for the land Mafia!" said Manuel Cardoz, AAP spokesperson and party leader from Calangute.
