The Goa State Fire Force Training Centre on Thursday concluded training for the 50th External Sub-Officers Course which saw 26 trainees from various states undergoing training since July 24, 2023.
The Centre, being the Regional Training Centre for National Fire Service College in Nagpur, Ministry of Home Affairs, imparts training for Trainee Sub-Officers deputed from the Nagpur institute.
The 26 trainees from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chandigarh, West Bengal, and Punjab were subjected to theoretical and practical training on various topics of fire prevention and protection measures such as fixed fire fighting installation, building construction, means of escape, aircraft rescue, basic physics and chemistry, special services, electricity, small and special gears, water tender, and fire service administration, during the six months.
The syllabus also consisted of training for portable fire extinguishers, hydraulics, hydrant and fittings, practical firemanship, watch room procedure and mobilizing, ropes and lines, salvage, water relay, fire service hose, hose fittings, pump and pump operation, breathing apparatus set, ladder, rural fire, first aid and ambulance aid, resuscitation and ship fire.
The department is, meanwhile, looking at recruiting divers to assist personnel in search and rescue operations during drowning emergencies. At a recent function, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant sought to further strengthen the department considering that it plays a crucial role in emergency and Disaster Management.
