Considering the difficulties faced by Covid patients under home isolation in Sanguem, the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) and ex-MLA Sanguem Subhash Phaldessai have appealed to health authorities to convert the unused SMC-owned rest house into a Covid Care Centre.
Incidentally, the move follows two days after an assurance was made by Savitri Kavlekar to convert the unused premises at Wadem-Sanguem into a Covid Care Centre.
Speaking during the inspection of the rest house, SMC Vice Chairperson Queiroz Cruz said the rest house is equipped with power and domestic water supply.
“What primarily needs to be done is getting beds and other infrastructure for the Covid positive patients,” said Cruz.
He said many households particularly in the remote areas in Sanguem have only one washroom facility and feared that a Covid patient in the family could spread the disease to other family members.
“However, the opening of a Covid Care Centre at the centrally located place would be ideal for Covid patients and their family members,” he added.
Meanwhile, ex-MLA Subhash Phaldessai said if the municipal-owned rest house is used as a Covid Care Centre, he would make arrangements to supply food to the needy from the late Uttam Phaldessai Memorial Trust.
Cruz has also appealed to Sanguem PHC to open a vaccination centre at the SMC Hall in the interest of locals as the vaccination centre presently housed at the Government Higher Secondary School is away from the town area and people have been facing transportation problems.
