The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has appointed Kirti Azaad, former MP, Loksabha as the State-in-charge of Trinamool Congress with immediate effect. Announcing this, the national general secretary of TMC, Abhishek Banerjee stated that the appointment of Azaad is done under the guidance and inspiration of AITC chairperson Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier on November 13, last year, AITC had appointed party lawmaker Mahua Moitra as the party’s official State in-charge of Goa ahead of the State Assembly elections. This appointment also was with immediate effect. Moitra was MP from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat.
Making this announcement Abhishek Banerjee had stated that Mamata Banerjee looked forward to a brighter future for Goa and the party aims to pave the way with courage and wisdom. However, the poll results were not so encouraging and though the party made a pre-poll alliance with the local Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) giving it 13 seats to contest while keeping 26 seats to self, the poll results were not encouraging and the party won only two seats in the State Assembly elections, as the people of Goa were not seen keen in voting for outside parties.
Ahead of the poll results, the party had deployed top guns ahead of poll results with general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, poll strategist Prashant Kishor and MP Derek O’Brien, who led AITC’s Goa campaign. But even heavy weights like father-daughter duo Churchill Alemao and Valanka Alemao, who contested on TMC ticket were compelled to bite the dust in South Goa.
