During the Monsoon Session of the Rajya Sabha, AAP MP Sanjay Singh gave a special mention notice to resume mining operations in Goa.
In his notice, Singh stated that two-thirds of the state's employment is directly or indirectly dependent on mining. He mentioned that the tourism sector had already taken a hit due to the pandemic and the mining ban has further exacerbated the situation and brought people of the state to the brink of starvation and made life very difficult for the citizens of Goa, stated a press release.
The AAP MP added that this ban on mining has led to an immeasurable loss to the state’s revenue which depicts a failure of the state and the Centre’s policies. Singh pointed out the fact that the mining industry is an unorganized industry, and its closure has led the workers and their families to poverty traps, the press release states.
