Beef shortage due to Karnataka strike, will be resolved: CM

MAPUSA
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that the ongoing beef shortage in the State is a result of a strike in neighbouring Karnataka, a major supplier of beef to Goa.

“There is a strike in Karnataka and therefore the arrival of beef has taken a hit. The government will take steps to sort it out,” Sawant assured the House during Zero Hour.

The issue was raised by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Venzy Viegas, who highlighted the distress faced by communities that consider beef a staple part of their diet. Viegas said the shortage was affecting cultural and social practices and also hurting those dependent on the beef trade for their livelihood.

“This is a serious concern. The acute shortage is reportedly due to multiple factors, including disruptions in the supply chain, restrictions on cattle transport, and inconsistent regulatory enforcement,” Viegas said.
