Goa’s supply of beef is likely to be affected in the near future as Karnataka is contemplating a law banning cow slaughter.
BJP’s National General Secretary C T Ravi, who was recently appointed the BJP party incharge for Goa, said the ban would be a reality in Karnataka in the near future.
Ravi, a former Karnataka minister for Kannada & Culture and a staunch protagonist of the save cow brigade, said a law banning cow slaughter would be passed in the upcoming Assembly session.
This, in turn, is expected to affect beef supplies to Goa as most supplies come from Belagavi and North Karnataka region.
“The cow slaughter ban will be a reality in Karnataka in the near future. I have asked the Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chavan to get ‘The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter & Preservation of Cattle Bill’ passed in the Cabinet and present it in the upcoming Assembly Session,” the Chikkamagaluru MLA tweeted.
If the Karnataka government abides by the directives of C T Ravi, the law banning cow slaughter is expected to be in force by December.
Meanwhile, saffron activists in Belagavi region have hailed Ravi’s decision stating that the long-pending demand of enacting the law in this direction is expected to be a reality soon.
“We worship cow as ‘go mata’ and our duty is to save her from being slaughtered. The law to ban cow slaughter needs to be implemented in the state immediately,” a Sri Ram Sena activist said.
