Benaulim VP sarpanch says will not quit, but face no-trust

All eyes are focused on the Benaulm village panchayat controlled by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao as a majority of six panchayat members have tabled a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Ezlina Fernandes.

Sarpanch Ezlina has said that she will face the no-confidence motion, ruling out the possibility of putting in her papers.

Six out of the 11 panchayat members have signed the notice of no-confidence motion against the sarpanch on grounds that the she does not take the members into confidence while planning the development works and does not execute the resolutions taken by the panchayat body.

The notice has been signed by members Nilesh Keshav Prabhudesai, Joao Albuquerque, Xavier Pereira, Glyda Rodrigues e Fernandes, Felicia Noronha and Diella Fernandes.

While the signatories to the motion had entered the notice of no confidence in the office of Salcete Block Development Officer on Tuesday, the notice of the meeting is yet to be fixed by the BDO to take up the no-trust motion.

When contacted, Sarpanch Ezlina said she would face the no-confidence motion. She ruled out the possibility of resigning from office.
