The judging panel, headed by nuclear scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar, has picked Bengaluru researcher Dr Mohitkumar Jolly, for the Goa government's Manohar Parrikar 'Yuva Scientist' award this year.
Attached to the Bioengineering department of the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISC) Bengaluru, Jolly will be presented the award during this year's 'Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Utsav' held on the former chief minister's birth anniversary on December 13
Jolly's cutting edge research in the field of cancer treatment found favour with the Kakodkar-headed judging panel.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a citation.
Apart from Kakodkar, the others on the judging panel were former director of NIO Dr Satish Shetye, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anthony De Sa and former Goa Public Service Commission Chairman, Jose Noronha.
Researchers and achievers of excellence in all fields of science as well as technology were eligible to apply for the award and had to post a soft copy of their application to the State's Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management.
The applications needed documentation related to their achievements including a list of recognition or awards earned from State or Central governments, reputed institutions and international organisations.
Recommendatory letters from at least two eminent scientists or academicians familiar with the applicant's work or achievements and a letter of support from the institution they belong to were also mandatory and applicants had to be be under 25 years of age.
