'Bill restricted people's ability to challenge decisions in court'

'Bill restricted people's ability to challenge decisions in court'

"The IPB Bill was problematic for several reasons. It proposed to continue the same Outline Development Plans (ODPs) even if planning areas were withdrawn. Additionally, it restricted people's ability to challenge decisions in court, which is a fundamental right. The bill allowed the TCP department to have overriding authority, making other departments, like health and agriculture, subordinate. This undermines proper planning and constitutional norms."

Our organization worked hard to raise awareness about the dangers of these amendments. We encouraged people to contact their elected representatives, and it’s clear that this public pressure influenced the decision to withdraw the bills. The public has seen the negative impacts of poor planning, such as flooding. Our goal is to ensure that such issues are not repeated by making our elected officials accountable."
