Bio-methanation plant should either be shut down or made fit for 'consent': GF

MARGAO

A day after the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) pointed out the Margao Municipal Council’s 5TPD bio-methanation plant at the SGPDA market is operating sans consent to operate, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has demanded that the plant should be either shut down or it should be made fit for consent to operate.. He has demanded to know why is the GSPCB only telling the Council not to discharge the slurry when it should actually be telling them to shut down.

Further demanding to know whether the GSPCB will extend the same privilege to common Goemkars operating a plant without consent to operate, Sardesai warned that Fatorda will not tolerate this filthy dealings that destroy its fields anymore.

“Keep your filth to yourself. Don’t dump it on Fatorda. The ongoing slimy relationship between Margao Municipal Corporation and Goa Pollution Control Board has resulted in the MMC’s bio-methanation plant ‘operating’ without GSPCB’s ‘Consent to Operate’. Why is GSPCB only telling them to not discharge the slurry when it should actually be telling them to shut down? Will GSPCB extend the same privilege to common #Goemkars? Fatorda will not tolerate this filthy dealings that destroy its fields anymore”, Sardesai took to the social media on Wednesday.

Demanding that the Goa government must act now, he  said the he plant should be either shut down or make it fit for Consent to Operate. “Don’t force citizens to run to the judiciary for even the most basic and routine work that the MMC should be doing. Correct your ways or we’ll correct you. For me, Goan Health Matters”,  he said.
