As many as seven sitting councillors were re-elected, while eight new faces were elected in the 15-member Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) on Monday.
A jubilant Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said except for two sitting councillors who lost the elections, seven sitting councillors who had contested the elections were re-elected and affirmed that the people in Curchorem-Cacora are with the BJP.
Though seven candidates fielded by Cabral won the elections and eight other newly candidates are independents, Cabral has claimed the support of 11 councillors in the 15-member CCMC.
Former CCMC chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar (695) thrashed Chetan Raikar (123) to win with the high margin of votes (571) at Bebquegal, while Sushant Naik (243) scraped past Kishan alias Krishna Rajendra Sawant (240) in Madhegal by the slimmest margin of 3 votes.
Damu Naik (353) defeated Narayan Naik (285) in Bagwada-Shirford, while Damodar Bhende (587) defeated Felix Fernandes (413) in Khamamoll.
At Morailem, Clementina Fernandes (402) defeated Jatin Salgaonkar (288), while it was a win for Pradip Naik (345), who defeated Jitendra Khandekar (234) in Pontemol.
At Carriamoddi, Jasmine Braganza (622) won the election, defeating Siddhesh Bhise (342), while it was a close contest in Pongirwal, as Tony Coutinho (290) defeated Denzil Fernandes (273) by a slim margin.
It was another narrow result in Madhegal, as Sushant Rohidas Naik (243) scraped past Kishan alias Krishna Rajendra Sawant (240) by a mere 3 votes.
At Vodlemol, Yolanda Pereira (460) defeated Gloria Fernandes (299), while Reema Alise (288) defeated Sangeeta Karmali (227) in the newly delimited ward.
At Bethmoddi, Carmelina Morais (336) won against Celina Mascarenhas (307) by a slim margin, while there was another narrow result in Ghadiwada-Kakoda, as Mangaldas Ghaddi (400) defeated Pundalik Ghadi (394) by a mere 6 votes.
At Sasnamoddi, Aprana Prabhudessai (340) defeated Jaya Sawant (308) while at Ghotmorod-Bansai, Vishwas Sawant (551) defeated Baburao Dessai (209).
Balkrishna Hodarkar (695) thrashed Chetan Raikar (123) to win at Bebquegal, while Rhucha Vasta (515) also defeated Dnyaneshwar Naik (385) at Khandiwada.
Later speaking to reporters, Cabral claimed that except for two sitting councillors who lost the elections, seven sitting councillors who had contested the elections were re-elected.
“People are with the BJP and we will train the new-elected councillors and continue with development activities in all wards of CCMC. The chairperson's post will be decided after consulting our councillors,” said Cabral.
