Accusing the BJP of pressurising Congress MLAs daily, GPCC president Amit Patkar has said that the BJP should accept a healthy opposition.
“The BJP is trying to finish and kill the opposition. They should respect democracy and stop putting pressure on MLAs,” said Patkar.
Patkar was in Delhi for the meeting with Congress's high command. He said Goa politics was discussed in the meeting along with the other organisational work of the party.
Claiming that BJP had been attempting to poach Congress MLAs, Patkar added: "There are even threats of filing cases on the Congress MLAs.”
“Our MLAs will not succumb to their pressure. I am very confident about my MLAs that they are not going anywhere. People have voted for them with trust,” he said.
“I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respect the mandate of the people. Doesn’t he want a healthy democracy?”
He informed that another meeting would take place with the central leadership next week.
Patkar also said the CLP leader would be appointed soon.
"We will have a meeting of nine MLAs and based on the consensus, the CLP leader will be appointed,” he said.
