MARGAO
Embarrassed over the cross-voting by five-party backed Councillors resulting in the defeat of the party in the election for the post of MMC Chairperson, the ruling party is reported to have vowed to strike back by tabling a no confidence motion against newly-elected Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar.
Sources in the know informed that at the meeting of the 15-party backed Councillors at the residence of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, around 14 Councillors are believed to have put their signatures on the notice of no trust motion. The signature of the remaining one Councillor, who did not attend the meeting at the CM’s residence, is expected to be taken by the party leaders in Margao.
If everything goes well, the notice of the no trust motion may be entered in the office of the Director of Municipal Administration early next week.
Sources pointed out that after the meeting of the Councillors with the Chief Minister, which was also attended by Cong-turned-BJP MLA Digambar Kamat and other party leaders, the BJP-backed Margao Municipal Councillors are believed to have headed straight to the Zambaulim Temple on Friday evening.
While Margao BJP mandal president Rupesh Mahatme feigned ignorance over the no trust motion, a BJP-backed Councillors said all the 14 Councillors, who were present at the CM’s residence have signed the no-trust motion.
