Burglars attempt break-in at Vasco bank

VASCO:  An attempted burglary was reported at the Canara Bank branch in Vasco after burglars broke into the premises in the early hours of January 5, 2026, but failed to carry out the theft.

According to the complaint filed by Mohan K Saikia, branch in-charge of Canara Bank, Vasco, the incident occurred sometime before 1.49 am. The accused allegedly gained entry into the bank through the rear washroom window by opening the steel grill.

After entering the premises, they attempted to cut open the steel door of the bank’s locker room with the intention of committing theft. However, the attempt was unsuccessful and no property was reported stolen.

Based on the complaint, Vasco police registered an offence under Section 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Priyanka Patil of Vasco police station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
