The Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to amend The Goa Zilla Panchayat (Fifth Amendment) Rules, which includes a salary and allowance hike for the Zilla Panchayat President, Vice President, and elected and co-opted members by Rs 2,000.
The Bill is expected to be tabled before the end of the ongoing legislative assembly session.
Currently, the President’s monthly salary is Rs 9,000 with an additional Rs 9,000 for allowances, totalling Rs 18,000. The Vice President receives a monthly salary of Rs 9,000 and Rs 7,500 in allowances, totalling Rs 16,500, whereas the elected and co-opted members receive the same salary, with Rs 6,000 in allowances, totalling Rs 15,000 each.
With the proposed hike, the President’s total monthly compensation will increase to Rs 20,000, the Vice President’s to Rs 18,500, and that of the elected and co-opted members to Rs 17,000.
The additional financial liability on account of this proposed hike would be Rs 12 lakhs annually. The cabinet discussed receiving the concurrence of the finance department.
