In a move to curb noise pollution and maintain tranquility in the village, Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira announced on Sunday that the panchayat has taken significant steps to address the menace of loud music, particularly from beach shacks and other establishments.
The panchayat has formally written to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to bring attention to this issue and seek their support in enforcing noise regulations.
The Sarpanch emphasized the panchayat's commitment to ensuring that all shack operators comply with noise restrictions.
"We have made it clear to all shack operators that playing loud music beyond 10 pm will not be tolerated. To enforce this, we are implementing a strict new measure," Sequeira stated.
Under the new regulations, all shack operators in Calangute will be required to submit an affidavit to the panchayat, pledging not to play loud music after 10 pm.
"This affidavit will be a mandatory condition for the issuance of a license. If any operator refuses to comply, we will not grant them a license to operate," Sequeira warned.
The Sarpanch explained that this measure is part of a broader effort to preserve the peaceful environment of Calangute, which has been increasingly disturbed by loud music, particularly during the tourist season.
