Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai has called for a dedicated Postal Circle for Goa and increased employment for locals in the postal services. At an event at Goemkar Ghor, he urged the Postal Department’s head to escalate this issue, emphasising that Goa deserves its own postal identity, separate from Maharashtra.
Sardesai criticised the Maharashtra Postal Circle for not meeting Goa’s unique needs, stating, “Ever since the Opinion Poll agitation, we have made it clear that Goa has a distinct identity. Being under Maharashtra’s Postal Circle feels like we are still treated as a colony.”
He highlighted the historical significance of postmen in Goan villages and lamented the decline of local employment in this area, noting that new recruits often do not speak Konkani. “The Postal Department must prioritise hiring Konkani-speaking Goans,” he said.
