MARGAO
Madgavkars, freedom fighters and citizens on Wednesday insisted that the consultant and the authorities should maintain the height of the pedestal which will play host to the statue of the great Indian nationalist, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at the historic Lohia Maidan Margao.
The Goan had last month highlighted how the project consultant had proposed to install Dr Lohia’s statue on a pedestal hardly half a metre from the ground at the Lohia Maidan when Dr Lohia’s statue had stood tall at the maidan on a high pedestal.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat who inspected the Lohia Maidan renovation work with Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, member of 18th June Kranti Din panel Avinash Shiordkar, government officials and the representative of the contractor, later told the media that Dr Lohia’s statue will be maintained with the same height what was existing before. Kamat further said that the contractor has been told to complete the work by June 10 so that the Maidan can play host to the Goa Revolution Day celebration at the Lohia Maidan this year on June 18.
