CANACONA
Stating that farmers from Canacona had suffered heavy losses due to unseasonal rains in October and continue to be left in the lurch, Congress leaders have demanded immediate compensations to farmers to tide over the expenses.
Canacona Congress Frontal Committees (CCFC) led by Janardhan Bhandari met Canacona ZAO Mahendra Pagi and questioned the delay in disbursement of compensation to the affected farmers.
“It has been over two months and farmers from Canacona who incurred losses in the October unseasonal rains have not been compensated nor has any relief been paid to them,” claimed Bhandari.
Bhandari stated that though the government assured to disburse relief in December, affected farmers are still waiting for the government compensation.
He added that even after completing all formalities for payments if compensations which are insufficient even to recover the cost of seeds, fertilisers, and manpower, the government has failed to pay the compensation.
The CCFC also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister and other government authorities, demanding the release of compensation to the affected farmers, failing which it has threatened to protest for the rights of affected farmers.
