CANACONA
Authorities in Canacona have been on alert with 17 active Covid cases being recorded till Monday.
The sharp rise in active Covid cases is evident as Canacona had just one active Covid case barely a week ago.
Canacona health officials said active Covid cases had risen to 16 on Saturday and with two new cases and one recovery, the figure rose to 17 on Monday.
According to Canacona Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares, 11 Covid positive cases were found last week in Agonda (6), Mashem-Loliem (2) and Karvem-Gaondongrim (3).
One more positive case was detected from Agonda on Sunday and another case came to light on Monday from Tarir in Canacona municipality.
There was, however, some good news in efforts to tackle coronavirus in Canacona.
Dr Tavares informed that a vaccination drive began for senior citizens above 60 and people above 45 years with commodities.
“Eleven senior citizen got vaccinated today and a total of 24 have been vaccinated. Now, the vaccination session will be on daily basis,” said Dr Tavares.
