Upset over the alarming rise in Covid deaths in the State, Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida on Tuesday requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to beef up health infrastructure and suggested that government hospitals awaiting inauguration must be opened urgently.
Speaking to reporters in his office, Almeida said he has been getting calls from many people at night pleading for help regarding admissions in hospitals or to arrange beds in hospitals.
"I am upset that so many people are dying from Covid. Some people have also been calling me to inform about the death of their family member and ask me for formalities to take the dead body. No one knows anything.”
“I met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to request an increase in availability of beds and while the government claims they have placed additional beds, I am getting calls from people admitted in Chicalim Cottage Hospital and even in private hospitals claiming there are no beds and inadequate medical treatment. The government must do something about this.”
“Last year when the virus first began spreading in Vasco, I had demanded a lockdown but the government had turned it down. I am now appealing to the government yet again to do something for the people in Goa," said Almeida.
Almeida told reporters that some hospitals which are fully ready and awaiting inauguration can be opened up for Covid patients.
“We have many new hospitals which are ready like the newly built primary health centre at Cansaulim, which can be opened immediately to accommodate Covid patients. More hospitals can be also taken up as Covid hospitals to help people. The Chicalim Hospital can be taken up as a Covid hospital.”
“The chief minister must ensure additional health infrastructure and deploy more beds in hospitals. He should also open up hospitals to cater to Covid patients because people are panicking over the rise in mortality rates,” said Almeida.
