The Crime Branch arrested a second accused in connection with the smuggling of adulterated liquor busted in December 2025.
The case was registered on December 6, 2025 following the detection of transportation of spurious and adulterated liquor meant for human consumption in a truck bearing registration number MH-10-CR-1839.
Probe revealed the consignment was allegedly being transported from Goa to an unknown destination in Belagavi, Karnataka, without obtaining the required permissions from the competent authorities and without payment of mandatory government fees.
The first accused, Hussain Sab Mulla, of Bijapur, Karnataka, was arrested and the sleuths seized 1,498 boxes of liquor, 35 bags of Asian Paints Marvelloplast weighing 25 kg each, along with the truck. The total value of the seized material was estimated at Rs 1 crore.
The CB said that during the course of investigation, it was revealed that Hussain Sab Mulla had allegedly committed the offence on the instructions of Shailesh Jaywant Jadhav, a resident of Islampur, Sangli district, Maharashtra.
"Jadhav had allegedly provided the accused with the loaded truck along with an invoice and directed him to deliver the consignment to an unknown location in Belgaum. He was absconding but was traced and apprehended from his home village," the CB said.
