CEE reminds that State gets power from other States, generated mainly from coal

MARGAO

Reminding that 85 per cent of power is generated in the country from coal, Chief Electrical Engineer, Stephen Fernandes on Saturday said that Goa receives power from the state of Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states to meet its requirements.

The Chief Electrical  Engineer further pointed out that people come on the roads to say no to pollution, but at the same time  want growth and development and power at home.

Further saying that inter-state lines need to be erected to import power from other states, the CEE said the need for land arises to set up the towers as per laid down guidelines to maintain  the distance between the towers.

“The people of Goa stress on a clean environment but the State has been receiving power over the decades from Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra and other states. Around 85 per cent of power is generated by coal.  We come on the roads to say no to pollution. Little damage will be caused to the environment when we look at progress”, he said.

Saying that the country would have to depend on coal to meet the power requirements in the next few years, the CEE said power generation via solar is almost zero after 4 pm.
