Centre grants Rs 19.37 cr for development of four major sports projects in Goa

The Union Sports Ministry has sanctioned Rs 19.37 crore for four major sports projects in the State under the Khelo India scheme.

The ministry has sanctioned Rs 19.37 crore for the development of hockey ground at Peddem (Rs 5.5 crore), international standard facilities at Chicalim squash court (Rs 5.74 cr), development of lawn tennis court at Fatorda Sports Complex (Rs 3.89 cr) and development of synthetic turf at the at Santa Cruz football ground (Rs 4.24 cr), informed Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Babu Ajgaonkar.

"Sports facilities are being developed in Goa on the backdrop of the National Games and with the cooperation of the Union sports minister, development of sports facilities will get a boost," said Ajgaonkar, while thanking Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju for sanctioning Rs 19.37 crore for the four major sports projects in Goa under the Khelo India scheme.

“These sports facilities will benefit athletes in Goa and these projects will play an important role in the development of sports in the State. Considering the need of the State, the union sports minister sanctioned funds for these projects,” said Ajgaonkar.

Ajgaonkar also thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his support and for following up the matter consistently with the Centre.
