Some ofthe states in the country are turning into hubs for drug peddling andconsumption. The drug peddling menace is destroying the youth. It deservescapital punishment. There should be a result-oriented strategy in every policestation to curb the illegal trafficking of drugs and its consumption. Thebig-time drug peddlers have political links and, as a result, are emboldened.In most cases, because of the political influence, the police are not able ableto reach the roots of these peddler groups that operate in the country. TheNDPS Act is strict but has been able to make a limited impact on being adeterrent, and the smuggling of drugs continues to flourish. Legislation cannotput an end to all crimes, but strengthening the law and giving it more teethcan surely make a difference. Capital punishment could instill fear amongoffenders.
