It wasamusing to read NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar’s very laughable statementthat the authorities in Goa were closely monitoring the Covid-19 crisis inEurope and across the world. Does the government think that Goans are morons?The ground reality is that the authorities have failed on all fronts in dealingwith the pandemic. They have lost the plot and it has been mismanagement galorewhile the State which was not long ago in the Green Zone has today over 35000confirmed cases while the death toll is inching to 500. The Goa governmentwould be well advised that instead of daydreaming of monitoring the pandemicglobally it should make serious efforts in our own now precarious backyard to saveevery possible life. Very genuine steps must be taken and it cannot be cosmeticaction. It is high time that the ruling politicians realize that this ragingpandemic is about rescuing every patient in distress and cannot be convertedinto an opportunity to enrich their pockets.
