Chicalim youth condemn attack

Appeal to CM to take swift action against culprits

VASCO

The Chicalim Youth Farmers Club (CYFC) on Thursday strongly condemned the brutal attack on activist Rama Kankonkar and the ongoing harassment of activists in Goa.

The CYFC also appealed to the chief minister to intervene in the matter and to take immediate and decisive punitive action against the culprits responsible for these heinous acts.

The CYFC, a collective dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture and ecological justice, views these attacks as a direct assault on the democratic fabric of Goa and a blatant attempt to silence voices that speak for the people and the environment.

“We are deeply shocked and outraged by the brutal assault on Rama Kankonkar, who has been a tireless advocate for the rights of the people,” said Alisha Pereira, spokesperson for the CYFC.

“This is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern of intimidation and harassment faced by activists in our State. It is unacceptable that individuals who work for the betterment of society are being targeted and physically attacked.”

The CYFC highlights that such acts of violence create a climate of fear and discourage citizens from raising their voices against injustices.

The club firmly believes that a government committed to good governance and the rule of law must ensure the safety and security of all its citizens, especially those who hold it accountable.

The CYFC has also urged the government to ensure a swift and transparent investigation into the attack on Kankonkar and other similar cases, to send out a clear message that violence against activists will not be tolerated in Goa.
